Barbara & Adam Maitland Print Set

These woodcut prints of Beetlejuice's friendliest ghosts, Adam and Barbara Maitland, are a playful take on classic Victorian portraiture. The Maitlands, caught between the living and the dead, face each other as they pull their features into grotesque shapes to scare the new occupants of their beloved home.

Hand pulled from the original woodblock and in a limited edition of 30, these friendly ghouls measure 11” x 14” each on separate sheets allowing them to be hung in any variety of layouts to fit any space. Printed with oil based ink on 60lb Strathmore Artagain steel grey paper. (Frame not included)

Drafting and Carving Process

Using reference I began the sketch process. After transferring the image to the block I start flesh out the details in ink. Then I start fleshing out the details. Working my way around the block I’m carful not to develop one area more than another so I can see how the juxtaposing line work plays off each other. My inking is sometimes more of guide as I let the different tools bring character to the line work. I used mostly V-Gouges to get the sharp lines and fine details.
